I know that one episode does not a ratings make, but The CW has to be very encouraged over the strong opening of their midseason series, The 100.  The show premiered to a .9 in the 18-49 demo and 2.73 million viewers.  This is higher than anything it’s predecessor, The Tomorrow People, have done in that slot and it even got higher ratings than it’s lead-in, Arrow

It’s a forgone conclusion that there will be a drop off in episode two, but the question is how much?  So far fan response to the show has been positive, but once the curiosity seekers are weeded out, that’s where the real test for The 100 will begin.  On TV Line’s poll the viewers overall gave it a bit vote of confidnce, so The CW has reason to be hopeful.

Below is the press release from The CW touting the show for bringing the highest numbers in that slot since 2010, but that would be overall viewers.  Supernatural in the slot last year often beat the .9 demo.  They also had some good things to say about Arrow, an episode I absolutely loved BTW (gushing review coming soon).

Last night’s season premiere of THE 100 brought in 2.7 M viewers, The CW’s most watched show in its time period (Weds 9-10pm) since 9/8/10.

THE 100 was also The CW’s most watched midseason premiere in four years (Life Unexpected in 2010).

THE 100 built on its Arrow lead-in by 13% in total viewers, and by 13% in A18-49 (0.9/3). It held 88% of its lead-in in A18-34 (0.7/2). THE 100 is the first show to build on its Arrow lead-in in the hour in total viewers.

Versus the year-ago time period, THE 100 was up 24% in total viewers.

Compared to the last original episode of THE TOMORROW PEOPLE in the hour, THE 100 was up 114% in total viewers, 133% in A18-34, 133% in M18-34, 100% in W18-34, 125% in A18-49 and 125% in M18-49.

Also last night, Arrow hit hard with the Suicide Squad in Starling City last night, and gained 7% week to week in total viewers  (2.4M), +17% in A18-34 (0.8/3), +13% in M18-34 (0.9/4), and +14% in A18-49 (0.8/3).

Arrow tied both ABC and NBC in the hour in A18-34.

So what did you think of The 100?  Will you be tuning in next week?  If so, is this something you’ll watch live or will this be a catch-up-on-the-DVR kind of show?  If you won’t be watching, what didn’t you like?
