Remember how much fun Punkin Chunkin was last year when the special was hosted on The Science Channel by Mythbusters’ Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman? No? Too bad, it was great.
Anyway, this year Tory Belleci of Mythbusters is hosting Flying Anvils, making it’s premiere on Labor Day, September 5 at 10 pm. It’s his coverage of the Flying Anvil Championship in Farmington, Missouri. Here’s the official description from The Science Channel:
Take two anvils, add a pile of gunpowder and ignite. What might seem like a recipe for disaster is actually the formula for high-flying, explosive fun this Labor Day with the world-premiere special FLYING ANVILS. SCIENCE transforms a 200-year-old tradition into a 21stcentury extreme competition that tests the boundaries of physics—and good judgment. FLYING ANVILS premieres on SCIENCE onMonday, September 5, at 10 PM (ET/PT).
In FLYING ANVILS, hosted by Tory Belleci of MYTHBUSTERS, SCIENCE will take viewers to Farmington, Missouri for the 2011 U.S. Anvil Shooting Championship where the greats of this sport gather to compete for two titles in two divisions. The competition includes the marquee event where contestants fire a 100-pound anvil off another using one pound of gunpowder and the super modified event, featuring teams using specially engineered anvils with two pounds of gunpowder sending anvils flying over 500 feet. Combining anvils and gunpowder for these die-hard competitors is a pyrotechnics playground!
