Tonight, the Villains will rise!
That’s the tagline coming from FOX as Gotham Season two premieres tonight at 8pm. Wondering what’s coming for Season Two? Other than we know that we’ve seen the last of Fish Mooney thanks to Jada Pinkett Smith exiting the show, it looks like that her demise has changed the balance of power in Gotham. Penguin, aka Oswald Cobblepot is now king, and James Gordon is facing his own obstacles in a very corrupt police department as he’s demoted to traffic cop.
TVFTROU had the pleasure of interviewing a few cast members of Gotham at Comic Con in July, each giving a preview of what’s to come for season two. The most enthusiastic cast member by far was Robin Lord Taylor (Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin), who talks about his character’s rise to power and being a part of such a big comic mythos.
No one was more psyched than David Mazouz (Bruce Wayne), who was pretty damned excited to get to that moment when they found the cave at the end of the season.
Executive Producer John Stephens does admit that the show spend a lot of time trying to find itself in the uneven season one. They did a lot of shifting in story lines until they found a tone they were happy with. Season two will be a far more serialized season and will be broken into two chunks. They will also introduce new villains, including the beginning of the Joker.
Morena Baccarian, newly promoted to series regular, talks about her character Leslie’s relationship with James Gordon and Bruce Wayne in season two, as well as her love of Comics.
Erin Richards previews the plight of her character, Barbara Gordon, who has unhinged at the end of the season and will be spiraling down from there. Her freedom will definitely lead to darker elements.
Episode 2.01 is called “Damned If You Do” and here’s the synopsis according to IMDB:
Penguin is King of Gotham and after a shakeup at the GCPD, Detective James Gordon’s moral compass wavers, as he seeks help from Penguin.
Are you a fan who had trouble with the direction of the show at the end of season one but is willing to give it another try? Here’s the preview clip that sets the tone for the new season. It does look intriguing. For those of you that are still on board, this should be very exciting.
Gotham Season Two premieres tonight, September 21st, at 8pm on Fox.
