Updated 5/17 – Nikita and One Tree Hill have been officially renewed, Hellcats has been cancelled. The CW has officially picked up Ringer, H8ER (I see a different name each day!), Hart of Dixie and Secret Circle.
Wow, the plot just thickens! I gotta admit, I didn’t think the CW had it in them, but we really didn’t know what new president Mark Pedowitz would do. Sounds like he’s decided he wants to try and make this network work.
As announced on Friday, The CW “shocked the world” per se and picked up a pilot. One of CBS’! The show is called “Ringer” and stars cult show fav Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy for those of you living under a rock). This is a major coup in my mind and has the potential to be as big if not bigger than the current network hit “The Vampire Diaries.”
Then, just announced, The CW has picked up a new reality series. This one though is coming with some major buzz. It’s so well received, they actually think it might have something to hold up to “America’s Next Top Model.” I’ll admit, I hate reality shows and I thought this sounded hilarious. It’s all in the execution though, so we’ll see. This is the summary according to Deadline.com:
Mario Lopez hosts H8R, in which celebrities confront their biggest haters and try to convince them that their animosity is misdirected. The CW first ordered a pilot for the project, which featured reality stars Snooki and Kim Kardashian…H8R also represents some Time Warner synergy as it comes from a team that works on the Telepictures-produced entertainment newsmagazine Extra. Extra host Lopez is executive producing H8R with Extra senior executive producer Lisa Gregorisch-Dempsey and co-executive producer Jeremy Spiegel. Warner Horizon’s reality division has been on a roll lately. It is also behind NBC’s breakout hit The Voice.
The rumor has been for a few weeks now that The CW would pick up four pilots, but could it be those four count these two? Or will the four be in addition to these two announced ones? We know the CW wants to fill gaps when the regular shows go into repeats, but is it going to be able to do that this season? The word is “The Secret Circle” and “Hart of Dixie” are top contenders, and “One Tree Hill” and “Nikita” will be back. How is your schedule looking now?
Here’s a bold suggestion to file in the “in my dreams” category. If The CW can pick up a dead pilot from CBS, why not “Wonder Woman” from NBC? Move it to Vancouver, give it a shoestring budget, and pair it with “Supernatural” on Fridays so that the fan boys get to live on their superhero dreams in bliss. It all comes with a built in “Smallville” audience which is loyal! I know, the superhero genre is passe. But Bob Greenblatt of NBC did admit he wasn’t a fan of the genre and he didn’t think “Wonder Woman” would fit with his network. Is it possible the pilot wasn’t all that bad and it’s all from a slight by one executive? Nah, I doubt it. Anyway, it would make a bold statement and keep Warner Brothers happy. After all, Warner Brothers didn’t fare well in the cancellations last week, losing “V,” “Better With You,” and “Human Target” and “Smallville” ending it’s run (plus “Hellcats” looks doubtful. Wow, Vancouver is losing several shows).
So, in your schedule, either go the safe route, or go for something pie in the sky for fun. I’m going to give both, just because I can. First, the “safe” schedule, and the likely one:
Monday:
8:00 90210
9:00 Gossip Girl
Tuesday:
8:00 Ringer
9:00 Hart of Dixie
Wednesday:
8:00 America’s Next Top Model
9:00 H8R
Thursday:
8:00 The Vampire Diaries
9:00 The Secret Circle
Friday:
8:00 Nikita
9:00 Supernatural
Midseason: One Tree Hill
Okay, now my fun schedule!
Monday:
8:00 90210
9:00 Gossip Girl
One Tree Hill fills in the repeat gaps.
Tuesday:
8:00 Ringer
9:00 Nikita
(Granted I’m just going on description, but these two sound like they would work together).
Wednesday:
8:00 America’s Next Top Model/H8R
9:00 Hart of Dixie
(Conventional wisdom has me saving H8R to the ANTM off-cycle time frame. In that case, Hart of Dixie can work at 9pm).
Thursday:
8:00 The Vampire Diaries
9:00 The Secret Circle
Friday:
8:00 Vampire Diaries/Secret Circle repeat, or if The CW has balls, Wonder Woman
9:00 Supernatural
Gee, even my fun one seems pretty tame. That’s the CW for you! What do you have? Winner gets full bragging rights come Thursday.

Alice,
I agree with your schedule – maybe they’ll surprise us! For a fun schedule, I’d like to see Human Target (from Wonderland also) picked up instead of Wonder Woman and paired with SPN on Fridays. ๐
CW Schedule (IMO):
M: 90210/Gossip Girl
T: Ringer/ Hart of Dixie
W: ANTM /H8R & OTH at midseason
TH: TVD/Secret Circle
F: Nikita/ Supernatural
Or maybe they’ll leave OTH where it is and use ANTM to launch one of the new shows.
A Deadline article is speculating that the Williamson & Swartz shows will be paired and that two more reality shows have been picked up. I don’t think it flows as nicely
Hart of Dixie/Gossip Girl
Ringer/ 90210
ANTM/ H8R/ OTH
TVD/Secret Circle
Nikita/Supernatural

Well they released the schedule and to me, the Ringer/90210 pairing is not smart. I’d have gone with Nikita/Ringer, but perhaps they are trying to pick up audience for 90210.
