It’s been 14 years, May 19, 2002 to be exact, since The X-Files season nine concluded, taking the show into it’s long hiatus, save for the feature movie I Want To Believe back in 2008.  Since that time, a couple of family members have passed on, and the new season 10 reboot has taken time to honor them in the most awesome way.

In the upcoming episode 10.03, “Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster,” there is a scene where Mulder (David Duchovny) is delivering flowers to a grave. The flowers go to long-time X-Files director and producer Kim Manners, who passed away in early 2009 from lung cancer.  At the time, Kim Manners was a director and producer for Supernatural, directing some of that show’s most high profile episodes.  In the preview pictures provided by FOX, Mulder is shown sitting and drinking in front of Manners’ grave, which dons the director’s trademark line before shooting a scene, “Let’s kick it in the ass.”

Also, the grave next to Manners’ belongs to Jack Hardy, an Assistant Director for the show as well as Chris Carter properties like The X-Files‘ spinoff The Lone Gunmen and Millenium.  He also worked on the 2008 movie.  It’s quite a fitting tribute to two guys that gave their lives to making the original series and movies a success.

Here’s my tribute to Kim Manners when he passed away in 2009.  I wrote it for the WFB and Blogcritics, and it got picked up by IMDB. We really miss Kim, even until this day.
